POLITICAL RELATIONS

The bonds of friendship between the two countries are founded upon mutual trust, respect and cooperation. While Kuwait is generously endowed with the precious resource of oil, India has its disposal a huge reserve of trained technical expatriates. This has resulted into a mutually advantageous relationship enriching both countries.

India and Kuwait are members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and share common perceptions on various regional and international issues. Both India and Kuwait have been cooperating with each other in regional and international fora and have held high-level discussions and consultations with each other as is evident from the numerous exchanges of visits between the two countries. Kuwait has been in favour of solution of Indo-Pak problems through bilateral discussions within the framework of agreements signed between the two governments. Kuwait has been appreciative of India's principled stand in various matters.

The exchange of high level diplomatic delegations between the two countries is a regulated process and over the years discussions and interactions on issues relevant to both countries have helped boost relations. Of the many interactions that have taken place, some are: a high-level delegation of the Parliamentary Friendship Committee of Kuwait, headed by HE Talal Mubarak Al-Ayyar, then Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, State of Kuwait, September 27-October 1, 1998; a high level delegation of the National Committee for Missing and Prisoners of War Affairs (NCMPA) headed by Dr Sultan Ahmad Al-Khalaf from August 10-14, 1999; a high-level delegation headed by the then Minister of State for External Affairs, Mr Ajit Kumar Panja to Kuwait in 1999; and the recent visit of Mr Jassem Al-Khorafi, Speaker, Kuwaiti Parliament, to India.
