The Late Amir Sheikh Jaber Bin Abdullah

A rational, tolerant, firm, and generous man, Jaber I was nicknamed “ Jaber al-Aish” on account of his charity to the needy. He frequently helped the poor and was very kind hearted and God fearing.

Important events during his reign:

Helped the Ottoman Empire to free Al- Basra and Al- Mahmara from the occupation of Banu Kaab.

When the British requested for his consent to make Kuwait a British protectorate, he turned down their call asserting the fact that Kuwait is an independent nation and capable to defend itself.

During his reign, three western traders arrived in Kuwait namely:

  1. Buckingham
  2. Stocqueler and
  3. Captain Lewis Pelly( the British resident in the Gulf).
